So, I’ve been doing the minimalist shoe thing since May, and running barefoot for a few weeks. My toes have started to spread a bit.

I looked at my summer shoes. I’ve pretty much been living in my RunAmocs, a pair of semi-ballet shoes, and flip flops. They are the only things that let my feet a) spread and b) let me feel the ground. In my shoe cadre I found a pair of strappy wedge sandals that i teetered on when my ankles were weak. I’M NEVER GONNA WEAR THESE AGAIN I thought so why not rip em apart and see if I can convert them to flat shoes?

The shoe on the right is the original. I ripped off the rubber sole, the twine, and the plastic wedge underneath. I thought that if I could just get down to the leather, maybe I could glue a thin piece of Vibram on the bottom and VOILA! new shoes!

But then I put it next to my RunAmocs, and it’s just pathetic, isn’t it? Look how much I’m supposed to squish my foot into these shoes. And i don’t want to do that anymore. So, i guess it’s back to the drawing board (of thinking about making my own shoes)

Here’s my foot next to the RunAmoc, it’s obvious which one is more like my foot. Why aren’t there more shoes out there like this?

er, more CUTE ones? For girls? :)
