Lee Saxby, an expert in biomechanics, shows us some tips to retrain your form for barefoot running. I love how he just has the subject take off his shoes to run on a treadmill barefoot to show how your brain will jump in and correct your gait if given the chance. He also includes some drills to help your posture.
Some tips:

  • Don’t be a “head chaser” – don’t lean forward with the head – good straight posture is key
  • Speed up your step rhythm (he doesn’t explicitly talk about cadence, but a good barefoot cadence is faster than what you might be used to with running – about 180 steps a minute)
