Glass, the hubbub that wasn’t
So the #1 freakout concern people express when I tell them I run barefoot is
OMG WHAT IF YOU STEP ON BROKEN GLASS????
I used to be worried about it too, until I realized how little of it is actually on sidewalks (where I usually run) and also, you can usually see it coming because it glints in the light.
But the other day, I was running barefoot and I was aware of something stuck to the bottom of my foot. Thinking it was the usual small stone, I stopped to pull it off. However, this time it was a piece of glass. Stuck into the bottom of my foot. It didn’t hurt, because after two months of barefoot running, the fat pads are pretty thick. There wasn’t any pain or bleeding, so I just pulled it out and kept on truckin.
BAREFOOTERS ARE BADASS!!!

Hi Charlene! I new to barefoot running and been searching all the websites regarding the subject. I’ve actually been running in minimalist shoes for a few months and I’ve just started to do away with them completely. This is my 7 run now completely bare. How long does it take to get a good thick fat pad?
Thanks,
Wesley
Hi Wesley!
hmm…every foot is different but I’d say two months or so? I started running minimalist in May, and in early July I started barefoot. I was running 2-3x a week on concrete/asphalt, and I would say that by the end of the month, my feet weren’t as tender, but it probably took until end of August to build up a decent fat pad. Now I’ve taken some time off of running and my poor fat pad is going away. wah!
